Girls from Brownie Troop 2236 came out to earn their Outdoor Adventurer badge. Along with learning about the native plants, they hiked, picked up trash, and played games.

It's finally installation day for the all the native plant markers. A huge thank you to all my volunteers. The day ran smoothly and the signs all look great. If you are up at the overlook, see if you can't find all eight of them!

Did you know Betty B Dearing and Nancy Hoover Pohl were friends?

September 4, 2025

They were both activists in Studio City, rallying the people to preserve our mountains and fighting against developers. Betty B Dearing died in 1977 and Nancy Hoover Pohl continued their mission. For over sixty years, Ms. Pohl, a resident of Fryman Canyon, never relented. She even saved Laurel Canyon from being destroyed by a freeway that was being considered to connect LAX with Palmdale! Can you imagine? She is responsible for the acquisition and protection of Fryman Canyon, Coldwater Canyon Park, and Wilacre Park, which all connect. Ms. Pohl was instrumental in in the establishment of the 5.5 mile trail now known as the Betty B Dearing Trail. The trail was dedicated in 1982 and renamed in 1992 to honor Ms. Dearing's contribution to the preservation of the Santa Monica Mountains. One of the places you can access this trail is from The Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook, located at 8401 Mullholland Dr. It is rumored that this was Ms. Pohl's favorite spot along the Mulholland Corridor and the overlook was named and dedicated in 1998. Ms. Pohl died in 2001 leaving quite a legacy behind.

Over the past several years, Cookie Sales and Fall Product Sales contributed to almost 50% of my fundraising needs for  this project. I am proud of what I was able to earn, but now I need your help! Please email me if you would like to donate. I will tell you what you need to do. And remember, $75 gets you a custom project T-shirt!

Six "Badge in a Day" opportunites (three Daisy and three Brownie) are now posted in the Project Highlights section under Activities and Eduction. I will be so excited this fall to host at least one Daisy Troop and a Brownie Troop once everything in place.  Here is a list of some fun outdoor game ideas for one of the Brownie badges.

Today was a workday, weeding and putting down mulch at the overlook. This was a tree that was saved, and has a special dedication here. Thank you to everyone who came out to help!

The beauty and peacefulness right in the heart of Los Angeles never gets old. I hiked today to go over the locations for the trail markers one last time and make sure I wasn't missing any.

The tees are amazing. They are super soft, and a perfect reflection of the project.

Donate at the "Steward" level and you can have one!

All donations to the project must go through Girl Scouts and Troop 46016. Email Aubrey at aubreygsgoldaward@gmail.com for information on how you can contribute and get one of these tees for yourself.

Today it was all about designing the trail markers. Hopefully these will be approved and we can get them ordered. Fingers crossed for a quick turnaround. Click the link if you want to help!

Getting this website going was a big step. The project needs a holding place for all the pieces to come together. This week I will be finalizing the the content for the plant markers and choosing the markers themselves.  Hopefully those can be sent to production soon. I will be talking to some younger girls scout Troops in the coming weeks, so some preparation on my part needs to take place. Finally, the time has come to really get the word out in the community about the project, the website, and fundraising.  This is the T-shirt design. What do you think? I have a busy summer ahead but I am ready!
